Colorado Trip: July 5th - 7th

July 5th- Mesa Verde & Durango

Mesa Verde is a beautiful park with lots of hikes available.  We choose short hikes as it was extremely hot.  We were here in 1976 and climbed the ladders to the cliff dwellings.  It was a challenge then, as I am so afraid of heights.

In the evening we took a walk around the Durango historic town- stopping to eat at the...

One thing is for sure we have not lacked great places to eat.

July 6 & 7 "The Weddding"
Sunday we took off for Silverton, for our niece, Carolyn's wedding.  It is an old mining town.  We felt like we took a step back in time.  Our hotel was very interesting- unfortunately we were on the 3rd floor and the altitude would get to us on the landing before the 3rd set of stairs.

It was great spending time with all the Casper aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Carolyn was a beautiful bride in a spectacular setting.

Colorado Vacation: July 4 - 12, 2014

July 4th-

We were up early, dressed in our red, white, and blue to take the Hampton Inn shuttle to the Des Moines Airport.  We left Iowa at 6:00am and were in a rental car in Denver by 9:00 headed for Durango.

We hit a Walmart in Colorado Springs for supplies- a busy shopping day, but who cares there are mountains in the background.

Temps were in the 90s, but such a beautiful drive.  Stopped for a picnic at a rest area and after several cups of bad coffee reached Durango around 6:00pm with temps dropping to 64 degrees.

The Downtown Durango Inn will be home for a few days.  Lucky us- there were fireworks right out back of our hotel- great way to end the day.
